February 2018

Sun 4 February 2018 - South Island XCO Champs - Crocodile XC MTB Park, Christchurch
Hosted by the Christchurch Singletrack Club! A massive amount of work has gone into this course over the past few months for this event, so we'd love to have you there, either racing or spectating. We're using a sweet 4km (160m of climbing per lap) purpose-built race course that uses a few brand new tracks and some existing tracks. More details about the event, and how to enter, at www.singletrack.org.nz. This is going to be great for ChCh with options for all riders, including kids. The course double backs on itself in numerous places so is excellent for specatating at, especially with the best riders from around NZ (and possibly a few Aussies) taking on the main Champs races. Lock the date in and bring along your friends.

Sun 4 February 2018 - Gold Trail MTB Ride - Shantytown, West Coast
A 40km ride from Shantytown to Moana (Lake Brunner) by a route never done before this event. Ride through the history of the West Coast and the Gold Trails that both our ancestors and many Chinese walked, in the search for their riches of the Gold of the West Coast. www.goldtrail.co.nz

Sat 10 February 2018 - Coppermine Epic - Nelson
Don't miss this one! Simply awesome. Mountainbike courses don't come better than this. The main race features 40km of Nelson’s epic mountain bike trails incorporating a loop of the stunning mineral belt. The loop starts in central Nelson and joins the historic Dun Mountain Rail Trail, a flowing gently inclined singletrack leading to a climb up the Classic to almost 900m to the top of Fringe Hill. Followed by the undulating Black Diamond Ridge single track through spectacular native bush. After rejoining the rail trail to complete the loop of the mineral belt with an 850m descent of the new challenge in descending; “Boulder valley”. There is also an easier option (but same distance) that avoids both the grunt up to the summit of Fringe Hill and Black Diamond Ridge. Entry numbers are restricted. Full details, maps etc and entryforms available online at www.coppermine.co.nz

Sun 11 February 2018 - Red Zone 6 - Christchurch
6hr event on the footpaths and roads of the red zone. www.redzone6.co.nz

Sat 17 February 2018 - 4X2 MTB relay - Timaru
This is a great event and well worth Christchuch riders driving 2 hours south for. A 4-hour relay for solo or teams of 2 riders on a 4.5 km course. Race is 2-6pm with prize giving to follow. Held in Centennial Park, Timaru, with a campsite right in the middle of the course. Undulating terrain, a few sharp but short climbs, some tight corners, fast straights – nothing overly technical – just perfect for longer races and suitable for all levels of mountainbikers, from beginners to World Champions. A great fun friendly atmosphere with all proceeds going back to building more tracks.
