This course is simply awesome. Run in conjunction with the Mt Peel event. It is a true adventure that will challenge riders of any ability. With fast gravel, grunty climbs, rough 4WD tracks, numerous river and stream crossings, open grass flats, it simply has it all and is a must-do course for anyone who enjoys challenging adventure courses. It's around 65km long and covers some fantastic inland South Canterbury terrain. The route, incorporating over 1000m of altitude gain and loss, leaves Peel Forest and follows the Orari Gorge to Lochaber Station. There the route joins the course of the marathon for its return to Peel Forest township via Andrews Stream. There are no major climbs but is very undulating. The course is ideal for intermediate to expert riders who have a few technical skills. For more info, phone 03 688 5531 or head to www.mtpeelmtb.co.nz

Not being held this year (will be back in 2016) Mt Peel MTB Marathon - Mt Peel, Geraldine
This is a fantastic event for anyone looking for a seriously challenging ride. The course is 85km long and probably the toughest single day MTB course in New Zealand. Climbing to over 1500m, the course includes about 10km of flat roads but most of it is on 4WD tracks (some quite rocky and rough) which allow magnificent views of the Southern Alps. About an hour is spent on a very exposed ridgeline before a steep, rocky descent to the Hewson and Orari Rivers, then returning to Peel Forest via Blue Mountain Station and the low Scotsburn range. There is over 2340m of climbing (mostly in one big very long climb!), so This is NOT A RACE FOR NOVICES! For those wanting an easier course then try the Blue Mountains course. Sat 11 April 2015 - Kaiteriteri 6 hour relay - Kaiteriteri MTB Park
Each year the locals organise a 6 hour event at the Kaiteriteri MTB Park. Usually it has been in winter but this year they have brought it forward to the April school holidays so more riders from the likes of Christchurch can easily head up to do it and take advantage of having a bit more time to enjoy the area. To find out more about this event, or Kaiteriteri MTB in general, head along to www.kaiteriterimtbpark.org.nz. An all-new course for the 2015 event! Starting at the rear of the Kaiteriteri Beach Motor Camp, you'll head over the bridge via the carpark and turn into Martin Farm Rd. Entering the MTB Park, you'll have a gentle ascent of Easy Rider all the way to Swish. Plenty of room to pass all along here! Then it's a slightly steeper climb of Swish and Scoot until you pop out onto the wide access road, Tank. Responding to requests for a more challenging course from some previous 6Hr participants, we're offering the option here of a fast blast down Tank, turning left at the bottom onto Glade Runner... or, for Advanced riders only, the tight & technical Remedy. A new exit onto Glade Runner has been created for the event and test runs confirm that fast, skilled riders will be able to grab valuable seconds by taking this option (whereas slower riders are more likely to lose time).
