Sun 27 January 2019 - Cheviot Hills Challenge - Cheviot
A multi-lap format race held within the Cheviot Hills Reserve, 1.5 hours drive North of Christchurch. Choices range from one 7km lap for team riders through to 4 laps for expert class riders. Course is a mix of singletrack, 4WD farm track and grass berm. Great chance to test the end of season form. Held the day before SIXCO, this is a two-lap event for those who want to race on the course that is being used for the SI Champs the following day but don't want to commit to one of the champs race. More details about the event, and how to enter, at www.singletrack.org.nz
Sun 3 February 2019 - SIXCO 2019 (MTBNZ South Island XCO Champs) - Crocodile XC MTB Park, Christchurch
Its back! After a very successful 2018 event, the Christchurch Singletrack Club are hosting it again in 2019! A lot of work during 2018 and early 2019 has gone into improving the course to make the 2019 event even better. We'd love to have you there, either racing or spectating. We're using a sweet 4-4.5km (160-180m of climbing per lap) purpose-built race course that uses a few brand new tracks and features, along with some existing tracks. More details about the event, and how to enter, at www.singletrack.org.nz. This is going to be great for ChCh with options for all riders. The course double backs on itself in numerous places so is excellent for specatating at, especially with the best riders from around NZ (and possibly a few Aussies) taking on the main Champs races. Lock the date in and bring along your friends. Don't miss this one!

A 40km ride from Shantytown to Moana (Lake Brunner) by a route never done before this event. Ride through the history of the West Coast and the Gold Trails that both our ancestors and many Chinese walked, in the search for their riches of the Gold of the West Coast. www.goldtrail.co.nz

Tue 19 February 2019 - 'Reverse-Enduro' Hillclimb Event - Crocodile XC MTB Park, Christchurch
Following positive feedback on last year's event, we're bringing back this 'Reverse-Enduro' hillclimb event, done in an enduro-style where you are timed on the climbs and ride the untimed descents at whatever speed you want. Sat 16 February 2019 - 4X2 MTB relay - Timaru
This is a great event and well worth Christchuch riders driving 2 hours south for. Held in the Scenic Reserve (Centennial Park) in Timaru. Now in its fifth year, this event is a fun race for solos or teams of 2. Complete as many laps as you can on this short, very fast single track/ hardpack track in 4 hours. Sun 17 February 2019 - Sheffield Rugby Club MTB Race - Sheffield
45 minutes from Christchurch, 981 Dalethorpe Rd, Sheffield. The opportunity to ride over some of the great country the Sheffield community has to offer, riding over three privately owned farms. This is a 24km race for the young and the young at heart! Riding through paddocks, 4WD tracks, and weaving through tussock country. A classic 55km XC point to point race/ride mostly across private land with exclusive access for this event only! Riders start on the Tukino Ski field Road and will be treated to a huge variety of terrain and trails including leg 1: NZ Army tussock/desert landscape LAV tracks, leg 2: the myriad of trails in the Karioi pine forest which wraps around the Whangaehu and Wahianoa Rivers, leg 3: the beautiful native Rangataua forest, leg 4: a smattering of farm land and quick dash to Ohakune on the tar sealed roads. There is also a shorter 21km course for those wanting a shorter challenge. Riders start mid way though the Karioi forest, then wind their way through the Rangataua native forest ending with a glide down to the finish line at Ohakune. www.ruapehuexpress.co.nz

A popular annual series for secondary school students, held after school on five Wednesday afternoons before the school's road season kicks off in April. All the events are based at the dog exercise area at Halswell Quarry (near the start of the Crocodile Track) and will make use of the MTB singletrack network in the adjacent Crocodile XC MTB Park. The series is organised by Murray Anderson from the Christchurch Singletrack Club, who build and maintain the Crocodile XC MTB Park trail network at Halswell.

Sat 2 March 2019 - Bluebridge Karapoti Classic - Wellington
NZ’s longest running mountainbike event. 50km, 20km, and Kids 5km options. Based in Wellington's rugged Akatarawa Ranges, 10km north of Upper Hutt City, the Karapoti Classic is NZ’s premier MTB event. Established in 1986, it is renowned worldwide as the Southern Hemisphere’s longest running MTB event. This old-school adventure ride combines a huge but achievable challenge with superb scenery and an awesome social scene. Be quick... entries are limited to 1000 starters. www.karapoti.kiwi

A very cool unique format event. A lap-style multi-sport endurance race which has three optional loops: 10km XC MTB, 5km trail run, & 5km kayak, all around 25-30 mins in length. You have the option of competing for 4 or 8 hours duration, and as a team or individual. You choose whatever discipline you want each lap you do during your race duration. Sat 9 March 2019 - Motatapu, Wanaka
A 47km scenic ride from Glendhu Bay, Wanaka, to the historic and beautiful Arrowtown. The first few kilometres are on gravel road, then you continue up the Motatapu Valley on a well maintained farm track climbing gradually over undulating terrain with several small stream crossings, until topping out at 887m when you reach the 35km mark. The course descends gently until it reaches a steep, rocky descent down the Soho Creek into the famous Macetown track. There are several river crossings over the last 8km on a gravel track. Depending on recent rainfall, rivers can be up to thigh deep. http://motatapu.com or contact nzinfo@ironman.com. This event fills up really fast so you need to get in early.

Sun 10 March 2019 – Rakahuri Rage 6-Hour Mountainbike Race – Rangiora
This family-friendly event offers a challenge for riders of all skill levels and experience. Based from the Rangiora Racecourse, you'll compete in a team of 2-4 riders over an 8km loop course featuring singletrack and stop bank roads. The team which completes the most laps during the 6-hour race wins. For the 2019 Rakahuri Rage they are introducing a solo category for a field of 10 riders. Sat 16 March 2019 - Hanmer 4 and 8 hour MTB event - Hanmer Springs
Perfect for all Canterbury riders! This is a great course for this race format - uses some of Hanmer's great singletrack but still not too demanding for those doing solo. With a team of up to four riders, or you could go solo, with a mixture of double track and singletrack riding, what a way to spent an Autumn day in Hanmer Springs. You have the choice of riding for 4 or 8 hours. The whole event will be run in daylight, so no need for expensive lighting systems. Based out of the Forest Camp grounds, so great facilities and plenty of space to enjoy the MTB Village atmosphere, with time in the evening to enjoy the other delights of Hanmer Springs. Awesome, awesome, awesome! The best relay event around. Start/finish area is at the Larchview Campground, Naseby. Usually 9am till 9pm. The normal 10 (ish) km course includes heaps of sweet singletrack and some forestry roads. More details available at www.mountainbikingotago.co.nz. There are limited entries due to tent site spaces, so best be quick! Entries open on 1 Feb and all 750+ spots fill up within a few minutes! Sat 6 April 2019 - Coppermine Epic - Nelson
Don't miss this one! Simply awesome. Mountainbike courses don't come better than this. The main race features 40km of Nelson’s epic mountain bike trails incorporating a loop of the stunning mineral belt. The loop starts in central Nelson and joins the historic Dun Mountain Rail Trail, a flowing gently inclined singletrack leading to a climb up the Classic to almost 900m to the top of Fringe Hill. Followed by the undulating Black Diamond Ridge single track through spectacular native bush. After rejoining the rail trail to complete the loop of the mineral belt with an 850m descent of the new challenge in descending; “Boulder valley”. There is also an easier option (but same distance) that avoids both the grunt up to the summit of Fringe Hill and Black Diamond Ridge. Entry numbers are restricted. Sun 7 April 2019 - Kaiwara Classic – Culverden to Cheviot
A scenic traverse between Culverden and Cheviot via the Lowry Peaks Range, Kaiwara Saddle, Ethelton Valley and the Random Spur. Two course options available: the traditional 43km ‘Challenge’ course; or the 45km 'Epic' course option for those who wish to race harder for longer. The epic course continues climbing from Kaiwara Saddle to the tops along rough farm track before re-joining the challenge course at the end of the Ethelton Valley. This adds 30 mins to the riding time. Organised by the Cheviot Lions with proceeds going to fund local community projects. While we don't list many international events on here, this is one that many Kiwis head overseas for. They say it is more then a race, its the best 7 days you've ever experienced on a mountainbike. It's a tour of the West Coast of Canada's beautiful state of British Columbia - the trails, the towns, the lifestyle. Epic (avg 50km/day) or Challenge (avg 30km/day) Courses are 70% singletrack. This is a 4 hr multi lap race, with a BIG difference! You have 4 different tracks, each track with a different points allocation, and you choose which tracks you ride, when and how often. A MTB and Road race that you can do as a solo or in a team. The 65km MTB leg on winding hilly forested gravel road is raced with the Motu Challenge multisport competitors and is followed by a road bike leg of 90km back over Traffords Hill and down Waioeka Gorge to Opotiki. www.motuchallenge.co.nz

Sat 26 October 2019 (Labour weekend) - Dusky Trail - Twizel
A great 40km course in the grandeur of the Mackenzie Country as you travel through iconic highcountry stations and take in the magnificent views of Mount Cook, Lake Pukaki, and Lake Benmore. Involves a few river crossings and an overall vertical climb of over just 500m. The Trail follows 4WD farm tracks and has a small section of both singletrack and gravel road. The Big One. 100km of riding over a course that is predominantly singletrack. There is nothing else like it in New Zealand. 3 courses will be offered: 25km, 50km and 100km. The Christchurch Singletrack Club are running a series of short cross country races this season for CSC club members (others are welcome to come along to try it out). Short course multi-lap format using various loops within the ever growing trail network of the Crocodile XC MTB Park. Course typically take 20-30 minutes to complete and involve 1-5 laps. A course with stream crossings, strenuous gullies and farm tracks along the beautiful coastline of the Pacific Ocean. There are four courses:

- the 5km Kids Ride

A 75km point-to-point adventure ride from Garston to Bannockburn via the

Bike 58km from the Waimak River Gorge bridge to SH1 along 4WD, stopbanks and forestry tracks. Also this year is a new 115km Enduro option which heads up the North Bank and down the SOuth Bank. Other options are the 30km Willows to SH1 course and a 12km recreational ride. www.bridgetobridge.co.nz

Mon 30 December 2019 - Bannockburn MTB Classic - Bannockburn
A very popular event over the holiday period that takes you into the hills of Bannockburn (just down the road from Queenstown). Three courses to choose from:
- Adventure Ride - 54km with 2000m of climbing - a race for the fit endurance rider.
- Classic Race - 34km of moderate climbs and fast downhills - suited to the hard to average racer
- Sport Ride - 24km of farmland and tracks with a huge steep downhill section before it joins into the Classic course to finish.
- Family Recreation ride - 12km - a relaxing ride for the family
