These low-key events on Wednesday evenings are open to anyone and are free to enter. Simply turn up and ride and we'll provide the timing. The courses in the series are mostly well known tracks so there will be no course markings to follow, except on the new Bowenvale Track and at Living Springs. If you are not familiar with any of the other tracks being used please use the maps below and pre-ride the track. While many ride this series socially or use it as an excuse to get out for a regular hill ride, the competition for the title of Canterbury's best hillclimber is very much there! There will be no prizegiving at any of the individual events (once you've finished your timed run you are free to go) - the overall series placegetters will be announced at the final at Living Springs where you'll get to check out some of the tracks we've been beavering away on over the past year and a half. A donation will be taken at each ride to go towards getting noticeboards and signage at Living Springs in preparation for all our trails opening to the public. This year's series will also have some prizes, thanks to BikeHQ.

Series Summary (see below for more details and maps)
    Wednesday 12 December 07 - Rapaki Track
Wednesday 19 December 07 - Bowenvale Track (using all the new realigned sections)
    Wednesday 9 January 08 - Worsleys Track
Wednesday 30 January 08 - Crocodile and Kennedys Tracks
Wednesday 6 February 08 - The Pines, Living Springs
Hopefully we'll see you there...
Craig and Rebekah

    1 - Rapaki Track
    Wednesday 12 December 2007

Same course as last year - starts at the bottom of Rapaki Track (at the gate) and finishes at the Summit Rd gate. Back in 2002 Ben Brears rode this in 12min 56sec - now that's something to aim for!
    Suggested parking: Centaurus Rd
2 - The new Bowenvale Track
    Wednesday 19 December 2007

The course will start at the bottom of the new singletrack, 400m past the end of Bowenvale Ave, up the main valley track near the bottom of the Spray Track. Watch out for downhillers as you get to the start. The track will have some markings so you know where to go. Come and try out the new realigned sections of this track. Note that we will be finishing at the top of the Huntsbury Airstrip where the Zig-Zag Track meets Huntsbury Track (i.e avoids the last sucky deep gravel section of Huntsbury Track up to the Summit Rd that we did last year)
    Suggested parking: Bowenvale Ave

    3 - Worsleys Track
    Wednesday 9 January 2008

Same course as last year - starts 50m PAST the end of Worsleys Road (on the flat area beside the water tanks) and finishes at the top of Worsleys Track on Marleys Hill. A classic dirt 4WD course that has massive ruts.
Suggested parking: top of Worsleys Rd (just near the start)
    4 - Crocodile-Kennedys Tracks
    Wednesday 30 January 2008

Same course as last year - starts near the Halswell Quarry Cashmere Rd carpark, heads around the foot of the hill through the Quarry Park and up the fantastic Crocodile Singletrack, then left onto the Kennedys Track and finishes at the Summit Rd stile at the top of Kennedys Track.
Suggested parking: Cashmere Rd Quarry carpark or out on Cashmere Rd
    5 - Living Springs
    Wednesday 6 February 2008

We will do timed runs from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm and aim to start the prize giving by 7.30 pm. There will be a charge of $5 per rider. This is to use the farm park facilities (barbecues, toilets etc). Bring along your family and your dinner. There are a variety of animals in the farm park for children to look at. At a guess we expect the climb to take 15 - 25 minutes. The course used will include "The Pines", a 1.5km long forest singletrack made in 2007 and the kanuka "Mississippi" Trail. Unfortunately the sweetest trail of all, "Zane's", is not yet completed. You are welcome to ride up and down it though. There will be course markings at this venue. This climb will be followed by the series prizegiving, thanks to BikeHQ. More info on Living Springs MTB trails can be found on our trailbuilding page.
Suggested parking: Living Springs Farm Park - Look for the huge FARM PARK sign in Allendale (just past Governors Bay).
