Rides

Rather than reinvent the wheel, paid up CSC members are welcome to join the Canterbury Mountainbike Club on their club rides (but you’ll need to join their club if you want to go on a weekend adventure).  Head along here to view their planned excursions.

We often get sent email letting us know about various mountainbike related things

Here are some we have received:

HEAPHY TRACK

Hi from Golden Bay Air

I understand you are the contact for your Mountain Bike Club. I wondered if any of your membership considering biking the Heaphy Track this winter would be interested in our Heaphy Track mountain bike transport packages.  We can either fly bikers direct from Wellington (we run scheduled flights from there), we can also offer flights and shuttles to return people to their vehicles.  For those able to be a little flexible, we often have spare seats on Heaphy Track flights – we’re now offering these as a special deal –  $99pp (including bikes).

Would it be possible for you to pass this link on to your membership?  http://www.goldenbayair.co.nz/heaphytrack.html. People can also give us a call on 0800 588 885 – we’ve carried a lot of bikers on the track now, so we can help with information and planning.

Many thanks

QUEEN CHARLOTTE TRACK

I’m contacting you as the rep for the Singletrack club. We have just introduced an awesome value package for a three day bike trip on the Queen Charlotte Track in the Marlborough Sounds.  Bike the Queen Charlotte Track for $279.   So, it really is awesome value and is perfect for groups.  If you could share it among your members that would be fantastic.  Some details are below and an A4 poster attached, there is information available at www.lochmaralodge.co.nz/h_latestnews.htm, or if you have a Facebook page, like us at www.facebook.com/lochmara and share the link posted on that page.

It’s $279pp and includes two nights’ lodge accommodation, water transfers for you and your bike from Picton to the start of the track at Ship Cove, daily luggage transfers, a packed lunch each day, your Queen Charlotte Track access pass, and return transfer from Anakiwa to Picton at the end of the trip (unless you want more more more, in which case you can bike the extra 23km sealed road from Anakiwa to Picton).  Plus you’ll have time to enjoy the ride, and the rest of what’s on offer at your overnight stops: great food and Marlborough wine, a spot of kayaking, some side walks, and time with your mates.

The track can be biked in two days, but taking three makes it a holiday, and we’re also able to provide options for friends in your group who want to walk or catch the boat between stops.

The package is minimum two people, but at these prices it’s a great excuse to get the old uni mates together for a weekend away – we can do bike hire too if it’s needed.  The top section of the track closes to bikers from 1 Dec – 28 Feb, so book now and give yourself a Spring blast.   For bookings or enquiries, email Lochmara on enquiries@lochmaralodge.co.nz or give us a call on 0800 562 462.

If you’d like any further info, contact me at marketing@lochmaralodge.co.nz or give me a call on 027 494 1411.

INSPIRING RIDING

Good morning,

I’m part of a company called Inspiring Riding, formed around the love of bicycle riding and desire to encourage more people to discover the fun and excitement of bicycle adventures. I’m spreading the word about Journey – a quarterly journal of bicycle adventures in New Zealand and beyond. I’ve copied the text of our latest media release and attached it as a pdf. You can also get a feel for Journey and purchase it on our website (linked below).

I wondered if you’d be willing to spread the word about Journey to your members? As people with a passion for riding bikes, I think it is something that they would be very interested in. I’d be happy to send a copy of Journey to you too, if you could forward your postal address to me.

We are here to encourage more people to try a bicycle adventure. If there is any way we can assist you to promote your club, organisation, local trails or adventures, please get in touch. We are always looking for interesting people, places and experiences to include in Journey and to promote through our social networks.

cheers,
Paul —

Inspiring wind-in-your-face bicycle adventures

Journey, from Inspiring Riding Limited, is a new quarterly print journal spreading the passion for bicycle adventures. Journey isn’t just another cycling magazine: It’s a little bit cycling, a little bit lifestyle, and a little bit adventure.

Co-founder of Inspiring Riding Mike Wilson explains: “Journey is based around the idea that a lot of us have lost the adventure in our lives. When we were kids, riding a bike was all about fun and freedom. Riding a bike is still the easiest way to access pure wind-in-your-face joy and set us free from the shackles of adult life.” Cycling all too often gets framed as a risky and dangerous activity – something to be feared. The real fear, however,  is slipping into a sedentary and monotonous life. Everything we do involves some risk. Many thousands of people around New Zealand find that the real risks of riding a bicycle are far outweighed by the mental and physical benefits that enrich their lives.

Adventure might conjure up images of dangerous trips to wild places, but Paul Smith, the editor of Journey, thinks otherwise: “Adventure is all about the willingness to try something new. Jump on a bike and have a mini adventure on your way to town, or ride to a local camping spot and discover a magical night within easy reach of home. It just takes a slight sideways shift in attitude. We want Journey to be the spark for this shift.”

Journey is a wonderfully tactile journal, printed in New Zealand. Volume one is filled with engaging stories of accessible bicycle adventures – families riding together, mountain bikers exploring historic logging railways, commuters choosing scenic routes to work, and a group riding through the night just because they can. The writing is accompanied by beautiful photography and illustration, and is not disrupted by advertisements.

Volume one of Journey is on sale now. It is available directly from Inspiring Riding Limited and many independent book and bike stores throughout New Zealand.

Information about Journey is available here: http://www.journey-magazine.com/
