$20 for Singletrack Club members
$30 for non-members
A $10 discount will be given to those who provide a helper (admin, marshalling, packing up etc) for the event.
No extra fee for kids race.

All participants must pre-enter via an on-line form but we will collect the entry fee on the day (cash or cheque).  Because you are paying on the day there is no loss to you if you end up not being able to make it.  This means you can fill in your details RIGHT NOW.  If you need to change something after you have entered, just flick an email to xc@paradise.net.nz.  Entries will close on Thursday 29 April at 9.00pm.

Entries have now closed.  See who entered here.  We look forward to seeing you there.

YUMMO
Bring some extra cash because we will have hot pies for sale –  $2

COLLECTION
In February, John Gretton, a local cross country rider, was seriously injured in an ordinary fall in Victoria Park.  He broke his neck and is in Burwood Spinal Unit.  John contributed to the trackbuilding effort at Living Springs.  We would like to take up a collection at the event for him and his wife.

CAPS
The Christchurch Singletrack Club has had some black caps made sporting our logo in red or white.  We will have some available for purchase ($20) at the event.

EXTRA HELPERS – thanks for all the offers – we don’t need any more now :-)
There is a place on the entry form for people to provide helpers, but you might like to help even though you don’t have a friend or family member racing, just because you are a wonderful helpful person :-)

Course Description/Descripcion del Curso

The course will be about 4  km long and passes through a mix of native bush, pine forest and open farmland.

The cross country races will start at the bottom of the 4WD track that leads up to the pines to spread you out a bit before you hit the singletrack.  Once in the Pines you climb for just  over 1km  on singletrack. When you exit the Pines you continue on singletrack (Rhymes with Orange) through regenerating kanuka.  Riders will head up to the wide spur and do a loop of  Goodie Gumdrop.  This is a 400 m singletrack loop that climbs across an open paddock to the highest point of the course then descends through a stand of gum trees.  From here it will be in to the OCC where you will be timed on your way past.  Exit the OCC over the mountainbike cattlestop and follow the singletrack as it winds down the Mississippi through kanuka forest (500 m), then it crosses a spur (620 m) into Zane’s, a 1.2 km long section that descends in native forest with frequent bends (some of them sharp), a couple of rocky creek crossings and several wooden bridges.   Once out of Zane’s you come on to Skoolz Out (300 m), an open wider piece of track that may be bumpy in places from cattle treading. At the end of Skoolz Out you will find yourself at the bottom of the climb to the Pines again ready to do it all over again.   If you are practicing, please don’t go through the OCC if people are using the facility.  All races will finish at the OCC.

The Singlespeed race will start near the OCC, but otherwise will be as for the standard XC races with a few extra activities thrown in.

For the kids (12 and under) we will mark out a short taped course using the flatter ground around the OCC.  They will be able to ride around this as many times as they can in a set time.  The exact format of this will depend on number and age of  participants.  To keep rider numbers to a manageable level it will be limited to children of participating parents.  More capable youngsters are welcome to participate in the standard XC races.

Directions/Direcciones

The Living Springs course is a scenic drive from Christchurch and looks down Lyttelton Harbour from the head of the bay.

The most direct route from Christchurch is to head up Dyers Pass Rd and drive over the Port Hills to Governors Bay. Continuing through Governors Bay, follow the road around the harbour for 3.5 km. Just past where the road gets down to sea level (Allendale) is the Living Springs Farm Park.  Continue on for another 100m and turn right in to Bamfords Rd.   Follow the road up to the OCC (outdoor camping centre).  Visit here for a map – lsroadmap.htm
